Lease signed for an Edmonton home - insurance up next
« on: June 09, 2022, 04:50:02 PM »
Four of us are headed to Edmonton quite soon and we've signed a tenancy agreement for a home.

With that critical step completed, the next tasks are to purchase renter's insurance, car insurance (and to buy a car, of course), and umbrella insurance. Renter's insurance vendors are quite numerous, which makes choosing harder. There also may be potential for finding a bundle of all three types of insurance on favorable terms with the same vendor.

Any insights that might be offered about good insurance providers for one or all three of these kinds of insurance in Alberta would be most helpful and appreciated. Thank you in advance for any insight offered.

I'm a P.Eng licensed in Alberta, and we get good group rates through APEGA.    I use TD insurance for home and auto.   I don't know if that's much help though.

Similarly to scottish, if you're a member of a professional body, an alum of a Cdn university (maybe only AB?) or a CAA affiliate member you may be able to get a better deal.

We've dealt with Morgex and TD Insurance (both with professional bodies / alumni rates).  Both are fine.  Had to give up Morgex when it couldn't do a specialty quote for period where we stored our household goods temporarily in our house which was purchased by our child...

Thank you for your responses.

I'll look further into TD Insurance.

I use Intact Insurance. I had one small claim for some minor damage on a rental car and they were OK to deal with.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
