You could be super fancy and bring a night vision monocle! It might interfere with eating the meatballs though...

It goes on your eye, not in your mouth BFT! It doesn't fall out... unless the TOP IS IN!

They just seem like big enough contraptions that they would get in the way of eating. Granted I haven't actually seen one IRL so maybe the CF has nifty ones that are conveniently compact.

If I were to start another camp mustache in the same area, would there be enough interest? Sounds like there is a waiting list for this one

I don't think there would be enough people to have both. CM*TO (actually CMC) was a raging success last year, so there are probably more people interested in it because of that. Why not go on the wait list, and see if you get in because of cancellations? The Toronto group appears to be fairly active, and they run CM*TO. Could you go to some of their meetups?

I'm sure quite a few of us would only go to one.

Probably more effective to have it in a different location than running a second one in the same area.

@babyStache regarding this and your earlier post about a new camp mustache, you'd have to talk to one of MMM's representatives to run an event with the camp mustache name (I think @arebelspy was handling this, but he just had baby #2, so I'm not sure if he still is). CM*TO is a SW ON camp, organized by people from a broad area. Unfortunately life got busy and I couldn't help them this year.

I think that if you hunt through the meetups near you, you can meet great people. Putting together the event is a grueling task, more so if you're trying to do it on this kind of a budget. Depending on your motivation for running an event, it could be more rewarding to attend this or another camp.

Hopefully you get past the waitlist and see how awesome the speakers an attendees are!

Another cool reason to hunt down the TO meetup thread is that you'll notice that there was a pre-camp meetup, and attendees who wanted somewhere to crash before camp. This is a great opportunity to meet an international MMM crowd if you don't manage to get a ticket.

TEN Bunks folks!! Believe it or not we currently have TEN open bunks and no waitlist!!

If you want in send you email now!

In other news, if you do already have your bunk secured, keep your eyes open for ongoing speaker announcements and the well-enjoyed CM*TO karaoke requests. BioChem DJ will be pulling together his party list for the beach bonfire and I'll be compiling the karaoke list.

We also have our mandate set for the meatball party. BEcause what would CM*TO be without meatballs and karaoke? Not CM*TO - I'm like, 90% sure of that.

Wow, surprised at how many open bunks. At least you know that everyone who wants to come has gotten the chance since it’s not a super quick sellout.

Me too! At this point, anyone who applies to the waitlist has an express ticket to the front of the line. Its pretty crazy! Last year we couldn't hang on to these spots.

I assume this means we will be karaoke-ing while eating Meatballs.

What this really calls for is a formal portable Meatball Karaoke party.

I'm envisioning ball gowns, tiara's, and a crowd of people heading up the ramp of the boathouse with meatballs on sticks.

Yes - in a multi-step process...
1. They tap maple trees to get sap.
2. they take the sap and boil it down to syrup
3. They crystallize the syrup into sugar
4. They take the sugar and run it through a modified cotton candy machine to make floss.

Best of all, there's only 10 calories per serving.

(Serving size is 1 teaspoon, but you will eat about 500 servings at a go)

Is it allergen-free?  I'm assuming it's vegan, so most attendees can eat it if not diabetic.

It's "healthy plant food, full of minerals", we will all pig out on it (there goes my carb allowance for the day).  1 tsp is a serving?  Suuuuuuuuure.

Maybe 1 tsp spins up into half a bag of floss?

There's so much air, I don't think I could really pig out on it.  Will have to have other snacks on hand, too.

I'll just wear the ballgown that I usually wear to obstacle races...that one already has plenty of mud stains on it so a little marinara will be NBD.

This just might be my background talking, but how about drawing and quartering the person?

Then we can bribe them with the pretty picture and the small change.

I have been really enjoying the Scotia Amex (I got a 35,000 point or $350 bonus + first year free) and the TD Visa Infinite Travel cards (50,000 point or $250 bonus + first year free). DH and I both have one of each so between us, we have about $1200 off in travel with just 4 credit cards. What I particularly like about these cards is the flexibility.  I can use them to redeem even things like restaurant meals and theatre tickets and can use the points down to the last penny (no need for round numbers). I'm also not restricted to a certain hotel chain or airline - been using my points so far for Airbnb stays.

I've also earned about 7,000 Air Miles (~$700) in the last 12 months simply through bonus promotions (i.e. regular spending done strategically) and a further 3,000 Air Miles (~$300) through one credit card application (only DH applied so far - I'm waiting).

Last year's Best Western CC promo yielded 60,000 points (~$500 or more) for both DH and I.

So that's $3k in travel pretty easily. I've also done a few other things and have a few other cards, but these were the easiest IMO :)

Also have u checked out the new ultra low cost carriers Swoop and Flair? Last I checked, Swoop flies from the West Coast/East Coast to Hamilton (an easy 45min drive to camp) for about $200 round trip. I had been thinking of an East Coast trip using my Air Miles but taxes alone are $200 round trip so it seems like an ULC like Swoop is more worth it, even if the airport is a 3 hr drive away for me.

Thanks @elaine amj

I was looking at a couple of cards yesterday, and will look at putting a plan into action.

We are headed to the Moab meet up in October, so I am trying to justify a September getaway somehow!

Do we need a presenter/demo on how to properly prep skin and use a safety razor/straight razor to shave?  (Men and women can use them *everywhere* and the blades are WAY cheaper and better for your skin than the multi-blade monstrosities.)  I am trying to convince my DH that we should attend.

Are you telling me that you use a straight razor on your head?

Woman, you are a bad ass!

Bah ha ha,

Nope I have hair on my head again!

I meant the safety razor for all the other places :D

???

Legs, pits, & lady bits!  I didn't realize I needed to be so specific. . .
Sorry, I was in the legal dept 15 yrs - but if you want to leave things to our imaginations....

I thought she was talking about getting the fuzz off your tongue.

I'm excited to share our third breakout session:

Awesome adventures in Commonwealth travel hacking
Yes! Come prepared for a discussion about travel hacking opportunities for Canadian residents and those further afield. We will be discussing points and how those of us who are fortunate to live in Canada and elsewhere can get them (Elaine's expertise). However, there is a lot more to cheap travel than just points or credit cards, so we will also discuss other ways that travel can be more frugal (this is Deborah's side). Bring your ideas, and things you have done, and let's hack the expense out of travel! (Non-Commonweath travellers are welcome to attend, but this session will not focus on any specific US point programs)

Elaine (elaine amj) loves to hack credit cards and rewards programs to save thousands of dollars of travel every year.
(journal: https://forum.mrmoneymustache.com/journals/realigning-spending-to-match-our-future-goals-a-canadian-journey/)

Deborah is attending CM*TO from Australia for the second time, so you know she has a few tricks up her sleeve on budget travel.

Ditto!  Also, I wonder if there are issues signing up for cards once FIRE -  in answer to the household income questioned - when one doesn't have any T4 income to show?

There are ways to avoid getting the income check.

Opening an account with the bank, then requesting the card (they can waive if you have a high enough $$ in your account) was something I learned.

Other sneaky ways, like upgrading and downgrading cards, instead of closing them. But I'm sure it's less effective in the amount of cards you can get (since you might no longer be able to even hit the minimum spends!)

It should be a fun discussion :) I'm really looking forward to Deb's portion!

I use a variety of ways to travel hack
- CC bonuses
- rewards programs like Air Miles
- discounted gift cards
- old fashioned deal hunting

Are there still spots or are names being accepted for the waitlist only? I’m confused.

Ask @okits . I think we are down to fewer than 6 available spots.
