Money Magazine Australia interviews MMM!
« on: April 06, 2018, 08:07:49 PM »
Got my copy of Money Mag in the mail earlier this week and just opened it now. Theme is "retire in 10 years" with several case studies and an interview with the Mustache Man himself!

I loved reading this. Some extracts below:

Quote
Mr Money Mustache has inspired many of our case studies, who are working towards an extreme early retirement and sharing their journey.

Quote
"Nowadays, all the same options are there to everyone but there is more awareness and community support for this type of joyful, efficient living"

Quote
Mustachianism is the belief that "consumer insanity has taken over people's minds. It is causing people to act in an irrational way. It has sabotaged people's own ability to have a good life. For example, they are working way longer than they have to because they are consuming way more crap than they have to without getting any benefit from it."

I think I recognised one forumite profiled in a case study, but I won't reveal him/her :)

I particularly liked the comment on their Facebook page that retiring at 30 would guarantee mental health issues.

I'm 33 and a long way from FIRE, but really wish I could or had serious FU money right now! For my mental health! Idiots.

I caught this on The Today Show this morning.

The hosts didn't seem like they'd be rushing to join us... :D

@mustachepungoeshere Karl is not known for his frugality :D

But he gave it a run and seemed genuinely curious. Didn't see either of them expressing too much skepticism...

I laughed at the letter from the editor, wearing her nice stilettos and trying to politely say that she thinks we're a bunch of freakin weirdos so here's some more 'normal' advice from Paul Clitheroe

The photo of Pete is hilarious, the far off contemplative look...while holding a stick of celery?

I noticed that too!

I like that they include a range of ages. I find Moneymag tends to focus just on old people close to retirement  (except that time they had us MMMers talking about our mobile phone plans, groceries & insurance!)

Might simply reflect their readership demographic.

But alas... most young people don't have any money so there's not really much that can be done with it eh? :)

I've been reading Money mag for years. They do cater to all demographics and most of their featured articles are split into sections for  three/four categories, young adults, middle aged, pre-retirement and retired. And articles on savings and investment apply really to anyone. I wouldn't call it basic at all, they had articles on options, futures, bitcoin, discussing economic outlook, implications of varios proposed tax laws etc
