Resurrecting this thread because I finally changed my private health cover *beams*!
It had been getting more and more eye wateringly expensive, and then I got one of those annoying calls from iselect where I didn't hang up and they found me a better deal. I resisted signing up there and then, and later reviewed my options with my current provider, BUPA.
Going on prices after April 1st, we are reducing our monthly payment from $575 to $385. Even after we pay a bit more here and there for extras type providers we are up $2k a year.
You might think I deserve a facepunch for leaving it so long but it hasn't been *that* long since we definitely definitely definitely gave up on fertility, for which we had the toppest top cover.
Here's a really big money saving tip - if you've been with BUPA for more than 7 years, check out the 'my choice' extras plan. On this plan the max benefits increase each year until at 7yrs loyalty you are getting benefits comparable to the top extras plans. The only catch is that you have to pick 4 extras categories. I've picked general dental, major dental, optical & physio. Occasionally I have a remedial massage but only get $22 back anyway so that's easy to drop given the saving. I got to a podiatrist twice a year but I'll pay less than our monthly saving for changing.
EDIT: It's still top hospital cover, just excludes pregnancy, IVF and weight loss surgery.
