Amazon Payments and Citi Forward
« on: July 09, 2014, 01:54:35 PM »
I have recently thought to look into doing some manufactured spending get earn a few extra rewards points using Amazon payments.  I do not plan on going crazy with it, just A>B.  Has anyone used the Citi Forward card for this?  Does it give you the 5x the points for Amazon?  If so, this would be the card I use, otherwise I would use something else.  I guess the same question could be asked for any of the rotating quarterly cards, and when it falls on Amazon do you get the 5x the points.  Any information would be helpful.  Thanks.

Just an update.  I did my first attempt with MS through Amazon Payments using my Citi Forward card and it did give my the 5x the points.  I'm not sure if there is a cap of how many points I can earn annually this way, but for now I'm going to keep doing it until it stops.

Thanks for the update.  Good to know, and glad it worked for you!

I have heard that people say (post) they didn't get the 5x with at least one of the rotating quarterly cards, so it may be card dependent.

hey what are you guys using your citi thankyou points for these days?

I typically just use them to pay for amazon purchases because it is easy but it seems to be a pretty crappy value.  However when I look at my other options on the thankyou points website those look bad too.

I don't think I would be using this card at all if I didn't get the 5x points on amazon and restaurants.  I think it is only a matter of time before they stop that because I heard new applicants can't even get that offer anymore.

Citi just announced a new option to transfer their ThankYou points to airlines/hotels (similar to how you can transfer Chase's Ultimate Rewards and Amex's Membership Rewards).  It's a pretty motley looking bunch at first glance, but you can touch on all the major alliances with these partners, so it could be an option.

One of my favorite sweet spots in the travel rewards world is using Singapore Airlines miles to fly from the US to Hawaii on their Star Alliance partner United Airlines for only 35,000 miles round-trip!

So transfer 35k ThankYou points 1:1 to Singapore and book a RT flight to Hawaii.

New partners:

    Cathay Pacific
    EVA Air
    Etihad
    Garuda Indonesia
    Malaysia Airlines
    Qatar Airways
    Singapore Airlines
    Thai Airways

I typically use my points for gift cards to Walmart, currently.  However, now that I have been using Amazon payments and earning points faster, I will probably rethink that some.  I only just started so I have some time before I have to decide.

Can confirm Discover Card 4th quarter 5x bonus for "Online Shopping" works when you make Amazon Payment, or at least it did last year. I believe Chase Freedom 5x did as well, but I have to double check that..

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
