Title: Wordpress webshop designer or DIY tutorials needed
Post by: tinkertailor on September 29, 2017, 07:19:21 AM
I have a small seasonal ebay shop but would like to set up a webshop of my own now that I have some regular customers.  I've bought the domain name, selected a Wordpress theme and had a designer lined up to actually set up the site.  Unfortunately he's had to pull out (family issues) and I'm finding the DIY route very time-consuming and difficult for someone with little website experience.  Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced web developer/designer who could help out with this project, or any links to idiot-proof DIY Wordpress tutorials?

A lot depends on your budget or perception of what is "reasonably priced."  I don't do websites myself any more, but I could refer you to a few options depending on what you want to spend, how hands-on you want to be (during build and afterward) and your willingness to manage the project yourself.

I'm happy to take over the running of the shop long-term once I figure out how to do so.  Uploading products etc isn't an issue as much as setting up the technical basics and design of the shop. I'm happy to spend a few hundred pounds (am in the UK) but not thousands as the shop is mainly active only between November-January. Local people have quoted me £60-£100 per hour or a fixed project fee of £1500-£3000, which is unfortunately way out of my budget.

I found Wordpress to be easy if I don't try to go beond the standard use cases. When you get stuck with something and google is not forthcoming, try to just change your design to something that is more easy to make. That's the best way to use Wordpress. Else just go for a dedicated online shop platform like Shopify.
