Hi all,

Getting into bike riding and after a ride which left me a bit uncomfortable, I realize I need women shorts or capri style pants with padding for the bum. Anyone here - all my bike MMM friends - have recommendations for me? (Brand or exact style or websites that talk about this in detail).

Thank you!!

I only bike to work and I do it in jeans (sometimes yoga pants--the wonderful life of a graduate student!)...but I did want to chime in that you might want to adjust and/or replace your bike seat if the problem is bumpiness/bruising. Does wonders!

This.

How was it uncomfortable? Maybe its the bike I ride (ie not a road bike) but the saddle is way more important than the clothing in my situation. Your situation may be different, of course.

When I switched to the Selle Anatomica seat, it definitely reduced the need for padding.

For padded riding, I use Pearl Izumi shorts (purchased through Amazon), which come in all sizes and lengths.  My husband affectionately refers to the capri's as my "Mormon" bike shorts.

Yeah, I hear it a lot from people who are new to biking that they need more padding in their pants or on their saddle and often the problem is actually that, being new to biking, they're resting too much weight on their butt. As your legs get stronger, they support more of your weight and you truly use it as a saddle rather than a seat. http://www.sheldonbrown.com/saddles.html

Obviously, that might not describe your situation, but thought it was worth checking.

+ 1 to women specific seats and Pearl Izumi knicks.

Saddle wise, I'd look here http://www.wtb.com/pages/saddles and here: http://www.selleitalia.com/en/prodotti/road/. Mountain biking models tend to be more forgiving/less obsessed with weight than road models.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
