Moving from PTel to a non-tmobile provider, suggestions?
« on: March 19, 2014, 07:49:15 PM »
I've been using platinumtel for some time, love the unlimited data $30 package. Thing is the reception inside my house is total crap (though Tmobile maps seem to think otherwise) and I seem to have issues getting texts and such. So... I've been thinking about moving to another non-tmobile based provider. I have a Nexus 4.

Anyone have a recommendation?

The clear answer is to select an AT&T based MVNO. Check the guide linked in the sigline for recommendations. :)

Thanks I.P. Daley,

Are there any that near the unlimited data and price of Platinumtel? I looked at AirVoice (no unlimited) and SpotMobile (unlimited at 40) but couldn't find one that met both criteria.

Thanks!

Dave

Edited to add: And I just realized SpotMobile moved from ATT to Tmobile so their plan wouldn't work.

Also, I.P., is there a reason I should avoid the Sprint Network if I have issues with the Tmobile network in my house?

Google is your friend on this one. Check out the super guide and howard forums as well.  Do a little homework in the differences between CDMA and GSM (hint your nexus 4 won't work on CDMA) and the fact that Sprint reception has nothing to do T-mobile or any other carrier  You should be able to make up your own mind on service providers after that.

I've been using Ptel pay-as-you-go, but the reception isn't the greatest.  I also used Airvoice pay-as-you-go for about a month, but I couldn't stand the balance messages they sent you.

My usage is ramping up a little, so I'm probably going to switch over to Airvoice's $30 plan.  AT&T has much better coverage in this area for me.
