I was planning on giving a friend of ours an extra mattress and box spring that we have that is in excellent condition. She said they already have a box spring and just needs the mattress. That's kind of annoying since I don't know what to do with the box spring. Both are in great condition....do you guys think that Craigslisters will take it off my hands for free? I really don't want to deal with disposing it in a different manner....

Yes. They will take anything for free. It's amazing what people will take. I'd go with a "curb alert" so no one will contact you, and then take the posting down when it's gone

I personally wouldnt take a free box spring off CL even if it looked new. However, I am sure somebody will snatch it up in no time.

One way to find out... post it!

Someone came by and took a broken mop bucket I set out with a Curb Alert in about 5 minutes flat.
CL people are very strange and will take anything

I sold a king size box spring on Craigslist for $25, so I'm sure you could give one away for free.

We got rid of the beds in our guest room last year. I actually had multiple people contact me for the boxsprings, many of whom were disappointed to find out they were already gone.

I bought my mattress, box spring, and bed frame off of Craigslist after I got my own apartment after college. They are still in use. I'm sure my girlfriend would not lay on it if she knew where I got it. But it was $100 when I didn't have a bunch of money to spend on a bed. It looked clean and has a mattress pad on it so i'm not lying directly on the mattress. Though this was before bed bugs was a real concern. It's not all that different from a hotel.
I guarantee it will be gone within a few days after listing. I gave away a 20" boob tube TV and had half a dozen people asking about it.

Post it saturday morning. Hand it off Saturday at noon.
If you can write it up, they will haul it off.

We've gotten rid of super crappy smelly carpet. It's amazing how good to the environment Craigslist can be! My husband even charged the people a delivery fee to drop off said crappy carpet.

I've gotten a bed and a couch/love seat combo delivered. If people want to get rid of it bad enough they will deliver. I drive a Taurus so neither of those were going to fit. The people I bought the couch and love seat off of actually rented a Uhaul to deliver them. Just paid their full asking price, which was still a great deal IMO.
