Day labor rates
« on: September 06, 2020, 10:20:04 PM »
Question, to you all, what do you pay day laborers for unskilled work like hauling trash, digging, weeding, breaking concrete with a sledge? Would love to know hourly or daily rate and what market you're in. Esp. interested in rates in very expensive areas like San Francisco, Brooklyn, Seattle, Palo Alto.

I always see daily laborers waiting for work in the Home Depot parking lot. I suggest going over there in the morning and asking them.

At least $15 / hour or don't expect much.

In Phoenix the guys who hang around Home Depot ask $15-$20/hour on their own; not sure what a temp agency charges for the same work.
Also those sign companies who hire temps to hold commercial signs on street corners pay $40 for 5 hours.  It's cash money.

I've been paying $30 an hour in SF, maybe that's too much. But I don't see how one could live on less. I do like helpers to arrive to the job on their own though, that could be part of it. I've been hiring them from meeting laborers working on neighbors' houses. Here labor hangs around the paint store.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
