Pointers moving to Canada-Part 1
« on: October 09, 2019, 01:18:24 PM »
Hello,

I am from India and I've been in USA for the past 5 years with half of it spent in grad school. I shall be receiving my Canadian green card in a few months and I am considering moving there in October of next year.
I would like to to hear your opinions on what to expect and how to cope.

I also have a bunch of questions and would be grateful for answers.

1. Does Canada and the job market recognize US degrees? I went to UW-Madison here. Do I need to reskill? I am looking at a one year program at Univ. of Waterloo?
2. Do FOB immigrants get lowballed while being offered jobs? I make 6 figures here and keep a sub 2000$ per month lifestyle, rent included, in the greater Boston area. I would like to maintain a similar lifestyle and savings rate.
3. Are job switches across engineering disciplines common and possible? I would like to start off again as a data engineer/scientist and I currently work in engineering simulation.

US degrees are absolutely fine. And US experience is good too. A lot of high income jobs are in areas with high rent... But you can research that. I don't know about any of the other questions!

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
