Title: where to invest next for 29yo
Post by: Shabang on September 08, 2014, 11:10:08 AM
Quick run down.. I'm 29, will be 30 in a few months..I have no option to do a 401k through work so I opened a roth ira a couple of years ago and have been putting away the max...currently 18k in roth. My question is what do I do next? I'm about ready to pull the trigger on a taxable account at vanguard (where my roth ira is) and invest in vtsmx stock and that's it. Is this the right move for me? I have about 15k in emergency funds in an online savings  account earning 0.90 and I have about 20k in liquid cash. I have about $400 left for the year to throw in my roth before I's fully funded with the $5500 for  2014. I just don't know what is next? Still new to this whole saving for retirement thing as I just started in 2012 ..I jumped right in being ultra aggressive.

Another confusing thing to me are the accounts at vanguard. When I tried to open an account at vanguard it gives me a few options such as taxable, retirement, general savings etc. Do I want the taxable account? or the general savings account? what are differences between the two? I plan to hold this fund 10+ years as my goal is to save and have something other than roth ira to fall back on.

thanks guys..go easy please.
