We currently live in downtown DC, and feel increasingly less safe by the day. Just this morning there was a police standoff a block a way with a crazy person which the police barricaded 4 block area. The thing is, it is one of the safer neighborhoods in DC, and I still don't feel safe anymore. I take the subway to work, and now there is specific ISIS threat against DC.. We've been talking about relocating for awhile, but this might be the last straw.
I'd like some thoughts on whether this is an overreaction (probably), and how we can relocate quickly and efficiently? We rent and have 10 months left on the lease. We have FU money to hold us over, although I wouldn't like to use it for more than a month since it is ultimately earmarked for a down payment. I have the ability to work remotely sometimes but not 100%. I am close to a big promotion and would hate to leave and miss out. If I went 100% remote, my career path would grind to a halt. There is nothing about her job keeping her around other than an easily replaceable paycheck.
