Put another way what fills the blank in this analogy?

Generous is to Frugal as Stingy is to _______

Profligate comes to mind. The denotation of the world may not fit but if I understand your question, the word has the right connotation.

This analogy doesn't make sense to me.

Generosity doesn't seem to have a connection to frugality- you can be extremely generous and frugal or you can not be generous at all and frugal.  So it is impossible to decide the word that has the same connection to Stingy, because it could be on either side of the spectrum.

To answer the question in the thread title, I would say spendthrift is a good word, but would also like to offer up "prodigal".

I was going for... people who are generous are generally not assumed to be frugal. And people who are stingy are generally not assumed to be spendthrift....

I'm a math / science guy not english.

I think you'd want miserly instead of frugal.

But I'm not sure what word you want on the spendy side. Because generosity isn't irresponsible or frivolous.

Maybe I'd say
Generous:miserly as stingy:magnanimous ?

I do math though, not language.

I agree -  generous and frugal go together very well indeed.

Miserly / stingy is a much better antonym to generous. And I agree with many PPs...the antonym to frugal is profligate/wasteful/spendypants/spendthrift
