What would you buy with a $50 Amazon gift card?
« on: May 25, 2013, 05:36:50 PM »
I got one for my birthday.  I'm never really in want for anything so I thought I'd crowd source my next purchase.

What should I get?

There is no time limit. Is it burning a hole in your virtual wallet?

Wait until there's something you need.

You could always sell it on a site like cardpool.com. You won't get 100% for it, but at least it's direct money that you could invest. I've done that with gift cards already.

Look for bulk organic carbohydrates (rice, lentils, etc.) or tea, or any other household grocery item you normally purchase to save money on your bill.

A large % of our grocery bill goes towards bulk groceries on Amazon's Subscribe & Save program for discounts.

I don't know on Amazon gift cards but check for a time limit.  Most gift cards charge a fee for inactivity thus over time reducing the balance to $0.

'tis my personal weakness, though.

A gift that keeps on giving:

- LED lightbulb(s)
- Kill a Watt
- hot water heater timer
- belkin timers that cut electricity phantom draw

Or donate it to a group that could really use it :)

On couponing blogs I sometimes see good deals posted for toilet paper on Amazon.  You must be in want of toilet paper sometimes, right?

I'm currently looking at a toaster oven.. which would allow me to bake a loaf of bread without turning on the big oven.

I was in the same boat last year when I received a $50 Amazon gift card for my birthday (and, coincidentally, I was originally considering using it to purchase a toaster oven).  I browsed Amazon to try to find something I wanted ... nada.  I ended up talking to a few friends about it ... one friend said that he buys stuff on Amazon all the time so he gave me cash and I transferred the $50 Amazon gift credit to him and it worked out nicely.  :)

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
