This has been one of my least mustachian areas of spending for quite some time now. I track expenses with mint, and I have averaged $334/month on food since January, 2012.
In May, I have spent $148 on groceries, $107 on restaurants (includes fast food), and $43 on alcohol.
A typical meal would be 30% rice/lentil/pasta, 15% meat, 55% onion/pepper/tomato/garlic/mushroom/etc.
I think the obvious is to cut back on restaurants and alcohol, but I'd like total expenses to be at $200 or less. Any advice?
I definitely need to drink less. A craft beer or two a day really does add up ...
One positive note, is I recently found a farmer's market that sells vegetables super cheap. I'm talking $2 for 1.5 pounds of mushrooms and 4 bell peppers for $1, cheap. That should help with my vegetable expenses.
