figure out approx cost of repair
« on: June 14, 2015, 12:49:40 PM »
its a friday night 1am, a  guy hit three cars in row in front of my apartment. the first had some scrathcs, then he hit the curb and passed to my car made damage to rear of the car and hit the next truck with my car. the speed limit is 10 mph. and that was rental car provided by his employer, police involved, and my car towed immediately. we victims and our insurance agents unable to get insurance information of him. the rental car firm didn't take any responsibility since they don't provide any insurance for that car..may be the employer have some insurance we are unable to confirm it till Monday.
I wish my car to get totaled instead of getting repaired. its 2012 corolla L.
Can any anyone tell me approx cost of repair the damage?
Thanks in advance.

And, his rental car only have some scartches in front bumper :-(

Oh, man, I feel sorry for you--you've got a lot of hassle ahead.  It sounds like you (or your insurance) will have to go after the guy personally, rather than his insurance.

I'm not an insurance adjuster, nor a body shop employee, but it doesn't look like the wheel got touched, so the damage may not be enough to total the car.

Since it's a rear hit, I'm willing to bet that this car can be totaled.  Quarter panels, unlike front fenders, are not bolt-on body pieces.  Fixing this involves significant body work that will likely exceed the value of the car.

I, too, am not an adjuster.  However I would be surprised if it's not totaled.

Welp.  I was wrong. :/  That still looks in better shape than half the cars I used to drive.

What was the estimate, if they gave you one?

That doesn't surprise me.   Rear hits are super expensive.
