Title: What Finance Software does everyone use?
Post by: Mr-FancyPants on January 12, 2016, 10:32:55 AM
New Muncharian wondering what software platform to start tracking my investments and finances on?
A little about me Canadian (yes, its cold), self-employed and employment income, as well as investments.   I'd like to be able to track all of this and to separate out different types of business expenses from my personal ones, as well as view my statistics globally.

A little worried about putting my entire financial profile into the cloud, so looking at Quicken a bit more than Mint or say Personal Capital - also I like being able to export my data.   Finances are complicated enough that Excel is a little overworked with them.

It's a long-term commitment for me in terms of software though, so wondering what best-practices among Muncharian's are?

Just this guys take:

Personal Finance: Tracks investment performance very nicely
Sigfig: Pretty good investment tracker, PF is better IMO
Mint: Horrible for tracking investments but for budgeting it don't get no better!

Excel is nice, but the automation PF and Mint bring makes it easier to just do it on your phone/tablet/pc.

I used Moneydance. Works pretty well for me. Started using it in 2011 when I'd finally had enough of Quicken.

About a year ago they came out with an update that was pretty buggy and really got flamed for it by their users, but they quickly posted a number of updates and within a couple of weeks it became stable for me again.
