What did you tell your coworkers when you quit?
« on: February 28, 2018, 10:51:39 AM »
For those of you that are FIRE or currently FIREing, what did you tell your boss(es) and coworkers when they asked the inevitable question of where you were going or why you quit?  How did that go?  I'm talking more about general coworkers, not the ones you're close with.  It's kind of academic for me right now since I'm not really that close, but it's a question that's been in the back of my head for a little while.

I didn't see a previous thread about this, but let me know if there already is one.

I'm leaving to pursue other interests. Non-close coworkers don't need the full story.

That's what I'd say.  No other justifications needed.

But it sounds though that you WANT to tell them that you've lived frugally and well and, as a result, don't need to work any more.  If that's the case, then you'll have to tailor the messaging as you see fit.

Are you worried about getting preachy?  What are your concerns?
