I just started considering setting up an HSA, but my employer doesn't offer it. I was wondering if anyone else is thinking about setting one up or has set one up through a bank/credit union/etc. Also, do you think HSAs are generally a good idea or not really necessary?

I set up my own HSA at the beginning of the year this year and I am a huge fan.HSA Bank has a pretty intuitive website and lots of good info.

My plan is to max it out this year and and not use any of the money; then next year take some of the money and open the linkable brokerage account. the current plan is to just let it grow and not touch it unless an emergency comes up. I don't have any major health expenses in a given year (been to the doc 2 in the last 3 years outside of annuals) so it doesn't really hit my budget much right now anyways.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
