2009 Ford Escape XLS - her daily driver. 80k miles, gets ~28 MPG. It's a stick.
2002 Ford Focus ZX5 - my daily driver. 120k miles, gets ~29 MPG. It's a stick.
1987 Mercury Grand Marquis - the cruiser. Been stored awhile, gets ~21 MPG.
1974 International 4x4 pickup - in pieces, so it either gets 0 MPG or infinite MPG. lol

2007 Chevy Cobalt, 105k miles. It is as no frills as you can get but has given me no problems since I purchased it in 2010. This spring I'm putting on high-quality rotors and brake pads, and possibly new struts and shocks over the summer. Hoping to make those the only maintenance costs this year.

I'll be pleased if I can get another 3-5 years out of this.

2010 Honda Civic.

Bought it right when I was starting to "get" MMM. I should have went older (cheaper), but now that I have it, I'll probably keep it for as long as possible. It's safe, good on gas, fun to drive, and should go 200K+.

2007 Honda Accord, bought in 2010, paid off last year
2007 Toyota RAV4, bought new but drove 3 hours to get it from a dealership that took my low-ball offer (pre-mustachian days).

In the market for a low-cost Toyota Corolla or Honda for my 16 year old.  We'll put a foldie bike in the trunk if she breaks down. (Plus she has her tracfone.)

1998 Honda CR-V.  Looking to swap for a more fuel-efficient ride - it only gets 23 mpg.

2012 Honda CR-Z (hybrid with a 6-speed manual)
2000 F-250 for pulling the horse trailer
What mpg do you get from the CRZ?  I used to have an '89 CRX and it would get about 38 mpg.  I'm just not convinced that they are doing any better.

Cars aren't really practical where I live, and when roads allow cars, I can ride my motorcycles, mostly my old BMW.  My driver when I need to haul stuff is an '81 Toyota 4WD pickup.

I've gotten anywhere from 36 to 46 mpg.  The higher end being highway driving in warm weather.  MPG declines markedly in cold weather with this car.  With conservative driving I can hit 40-42 most of the time.  I think the automatic gets slightly better mileage, but it was a snore to drive, and $1K extra on the sticker price.

It's a fun car, but I agree that it *should* get better mileage, but it's so much more fun than a Prius *ducks*.  I've owned a couple CRX's, which is why I bought this car.  I think it can pass for Mustachian if I keep it for about 20 years.

2003 Toyota Tacoma 4WD stick, about 131,000 miles on it.  The camper shell leaks, but other than that, no problems.  I gave up clown car driving last May, so I use it only to drive out of town.

Bought it slightly used (<1000 miles), has been paid off for several years.

Almost embarrased to say, but a 2011 Ram 1500 with the HEMI engine. Bought new BM (before Mustachianism). In my defense, or rather as an excuse, I used it as I spent the last three years traveling the country with my travel trailer, seeing all the USA has to offer, and I wanted a dependable rig. Didn't want to get stranded on the loneliest road in America (route 50, Nevada) Not sorry I spent the money on the truck, or trailer, or the travel. But I got that out of my system and I am changing my ways.

It's paid for, and now costs me $1380 per year to own, tax, maint and registration. Plus gas, at a twenty five cents a mile.

Once I get set up in an established location, I plan to sell it and get something more reasonable. But damn, those 390 horses in the HEMI are fun to run!

Daily driver (that is, when I'm not riding a bike) is my beat-up, rusty '96 Subaru Outback.  2.2L, 5MT, 221,000 miles.

I've logged my miles, fill-ups, and maintenance since purchase, but was horrified at the gas mileage when MMM inspired me to start calculating it in January.  Snow tires and cold weather never help, but I was getting 17.5-20 MPG.  :^(

Since then, I've aired up my tires a little more and worked on my hypermiling.  I got 24.3 MPG on my last tank of 87 octane (10% ethanol, it's the cheapest here) and hope to consistently get over 30 MPG this summer.  Pity that it only gets good gas mileage when I'm driving it the least.  ;^)

2008 Mazda3 S and 2011 Nissan Maxima (wife's).  I love the mazda3, wish it was a hatchback (I always keep an eye out for one with low miles and stick) Her lease is up on the maxima (lease was pre-marriage and too much of a hassle to get out of) Trying to come to a consensus on a "new" car is proving more difficult than I thought.

2010 Mazda 3 hatchback with 161,000 km.  I love the hatchback, I can get so much into it.  Decent gas mileage, especially when I stick to 100 km/hr.  I grew up in Quebec, sticking to the speed limit is so boring, but I force myself - cruise control is my friend.

I used to have a Subaru Outback, thought I would miss the 4 wheel drive when I drive gravel roads and park in farmers' fields (country fairs, dog shows), but this one does just fine, and the gas consumption is a lot better.

2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid - 40-41mpg in summer and around 35 in winter

Got a great deal as someone had traded it back in with only 1,500 miles on it so it was $6k off list price.  I drive for a living so need a car that looks decent and is reliable.  Getting close to the 100k miles mark.

Hey, I wouldn't discount it. In 2002, I'd just met my now-husband, and fell hard for him when I saw his car -- a 1985 Volvo 240 wagon. I'm not kidding. We worked at an ad agency and everyone else drove stupidly expensive and impractical cars. That Volvo was like a beacon of hope in a sea of despair.

Fiat 500, manual transmission. Fun car, great gas mileage. I bought it new (whoops) but will keep it until it dies.

Got one too a year ago, a basic 500 with manual transmission. Great little car, very stylish and nimble for city use, and decent for short trips under three hours. I bought it new but $4K less than normal price. I spotted my little car by accident while on a Sunday drive in farm country three hours south of Calgary. It was sitting in a Dodge truck dealer lot, drowned in a see of huge pick-up trucks. The car had been given away in a draw but the winner, instead of taking the toy car, chose to use their win as a partial payment on a new pick-up truck. I called the dealer the next day, made a low-ball offer which was accepted, and the car was delivered in front of my downtown Calgary apartment, free of charge, four hours later.

I know absolutely nothing about these cars...  but don't they come with some ridiculous lifetime warranty?  A used one with a lifetime warranty could be very mustachian.

Hmm...feel a face punch coming up

2004 Saab 9-5 Aero wagon 116k miles- his DD
1998 Saab 9000CSE 192k miles- her DD
1992 Saab 900 Turbo convertible 115k miles - her summer car
1989 Porsche 944S2 79k miles - his summer car

In my defence, the insurance for all of the above (full coverage since it's not much more than just liability) is less than $1,000 per year and the annual vehicle tax is pretty low in Ohio.  And I do all my own work (replaced the water pump on the Saab 9000 on Sunday), so it's useful to have spare vehicles when once of them is being worked on in my garage.  Also, the two oldest vehicles are probably not depreciating at all any more.  That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

Is it weird that I'm jealous?

'99 Corolla here, 140k mi, auto. I get around 35mpg, it's hard to do better without a stick shift. It's the highest trim model with alloy wheels, spoiler, sunroof, and power everything. It's beat to hell with flaking paint and every body panel at least one big dent (not really my fault...). I just wish it were a hatchback and was a manual. I kinda miss my '96 Corolla though.

We have three adult drivers, and:

1999 Saturn SL2 (90,000 miles)
2000 Saturn SL2 (50,000 miles)
2002 Saturn L100 (250,000 miles)
2002 Saturn L300 (75,000 miles)

We bought the L300 this past Sunday to replace a 2002 L200 that was destroyed by an uninsured driver last Tuesday.  It's now sitting in the garage and will provide a supply of parts for the L100.  The 2000 SL2 is our backup vehicle (very helpful when one has old vehicles and works on them himself) and will replace the L100 when it gets to the end of its life.

So Bakari, do the aerodynamic mods on your truck help out much? I've heard different theories on the slanted bed cover idea, but the wheel well aerofoils(?) piqued my curiosity. Looks like a simple mod and would be worth it even for a 0.25 mpg gain, especially in a generally low mpg pick'em up truck.

I didn't do mods in isolation, my driving is highly variable day to day, and I don't have instant feedback, so there is no way for me to say which specific mod increased mileage any specific amount.
I can say that overall, the truck got about 15mpg fully stock, and I get somewhere between 25 and 30mpg now (depending mostly on load and terrain)

Not to get too far off topic, besides, I already have written a lot about it: http://biodieselhauling.blogspot.com/search/label/mpg

Last off topic here, but dang Bakari, you've made some fantastic mpg gains. I'm totally impressed! My Ram has the MDS feature (multi displacement system) which cuts the fuel to four cylinders when in light load situations. It can give a boost of one or two mpg at times. A couple of times I was able to get over 25 mpg from my stock RAM on a couple of 225 mile trips by watching the speed, and accelerating/decelerating through hilly sections. But I think I had a bit of tail wind advantage helping, too.

Back on topic... my Ram that I mentioned in an earlier post is paid off, and after thinking about it I'm pretty sure I'm going to sell it and get a little beater. My FI is becoming more important to me the more I think about it.

2008 Honda Fit with 80k miles.  It's super practical but also loud and very uncomfortable.  It's particularly bad lately because the winter has destroyed our roads here in Connecticut.  I'm trying with all my Mustachian might to resist selling it and buying a more comfy car, maybe an ex-rental Impala or Avalon sometime in the future.

2001 Toyota corolla. God awful ugly, came with a dent in the back panel, but was $1500 on Craigslist with only 70k one owner miles. It is our commuter.
SO has an 03 Subaru impreza wrx turbo. I hate it and it is becoming expensive to fix.
04 Chevy diesel for pulling the horses.
73 gmc truck for on farm work.

I called the dealer the next day, made a low-ball offer which was accepted, and the car was delivered in front of my downtown Calgary apartment, free of charge, four hours later.

Well done! I did not get such a deal on mine - just the sunroof for the price of the base model. I really feel fancy with the sunroof:)

2010 Scion tC, paid off as of one year ago.

Fantastic piece of car. I will drive it until it explodes.

Thought about this model when I was shopping. Figured it be more fun to drive a Civic sedan. But practicality won out...along with my dad after he told me the tC insurance was crazy and wasn't going to happen.

2006 Ford Mustang GT (paid off, garaged until my post child raising/retirement years)
Newer models, but I'm planning to drive them until the wheels fall off.

I don't know if the tC is that bad on insurance, at least not at my age (28). I pay about $70 per month for full coverage.

I will admit that it only gets about 24 mpg. Which for it's size isn't impressive at all. So you've probably got me beat in that respect.

I've seen it on "Most expensive cars to insure" lists. But it might have been more of my age than the car.

The MPG was a con too, a friend told me the best he's ever gotten was around 26. Civic made more sense for how much I drive.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
