What's your highest single credit card limit?
« on: January 15, 2015, 03:12:20 PM »
What's your highest single credit card limit...what type of card... and guestimation on your credit score?

I have an 8k limit on a Southwest Rapid Rewards Visa, think my credit score is just below 700 for the time being.

$24,000 on a Southwest Rapid Rewards Premier card (Personal).  Credit score is 750-760 depending on the bureau.  Have 5 other Chase cards at or around $17K limits each.

When I was younger, I learned that the percentage of total credit used hurt your score pretty bad if it was over a certain number. I always paid my cards off each month so I continually asked for credit limit increases to ensure my credit used was a low percentage of total credit. As a result, I have a card with a $27,000 limit. I haven't ever used more than 20% of that but they were giving so I was taking! :)

Credit score is 740-ish.

I have one with a 30k limit, a couple more with limits in the high 20s.  My credit score most recently was 770.

Waaaaaay too much.  Something like $20K when we never spend past $5K.

Any reason not to lower this to reduce risk to the CC companies?  (Yes I know they cover CC# theft, but I also know that the bill gets passed to back to the cardholders one way or another.)

$8500 limit. That's my only card.

Credit score is 750+, which is in the "excellent" category in Canada according to my mortgage broker. We had no credit in this country when we moved here in 2007, so I only expect that number to go up.

One very good reason:  It will lower your credit score.  Utilization percentages at the same dollar amounts will be higher when your statement closes (even if you pay the statement balance every month) resulting in lower score.  This may be a few points, or depending on your total available credit, it may be more.

I just applied for the Souhwest Rapid Rewards card and they gave me a 25K limit (!?!).  FICO is about 810.

My only CC has a $22k limit.  I thought that was pretty ridiculous until seeing some of y'all's limits.

$44k, Chase Freedom.  Not sure on my exact score, though.  The guy at Chase said it was excellent but I forget the number :)

$17,000 on AMEX Everyday with a 740-750 FICO.  At one point in my life, my credit score was in the low 500s and I was using credit cards with $300 limits with interest rates around 25%, so I'm pretty pleased with myself right now.

I was just given a card with a $40,000 limit, I only got it for the free air miles, will be cancelling it before they charge me any fees, I would be (un)lucky to spend that much a year on all expenses.

Argh.  Ok....  I'll wait until I've bought a house.

Then I'm going to reduce the limits to something reasonable.

Highest ever was $99,900 on an AMEX back when I did credit card hijinks to a greater degree.

Current highest is $31K on a Chase Southwest Visa.

Credit score per Credit Karma is 768.

Uh, this could be different in the states but one of the few reasons you want to lower them is because you need to acquire more debt.
A bank will typically consider you credit card limits and deduct that from the total amount offered.

Yes I know that people will challenge whether you should be getting the biggest home-loan a bank will offer, but that is a separate issue.

$6500 on Discover.

I've only had credit cards period for less than 2 years, so I feel pretty awesome having $15,000 overall credit limit and a 765 FICO score. My credit utilization is always less than 2-3%, and frequently less than 1%.

$28K Chase Freedom. Credit score is over 800. I got this card because I had a stupid Capital One card (because they bought HSBC's portfolio). I had a perfect record with them, but around the holiday last year I was getting close to the 10K limit with work expenses, etc. so I asked for more credit and they denied me but couldn't tell me why I got denied. Their CR people were clueless. The same night I applied and was immediately approved for the Chase Freedom and they gave me this nice limit.

We have a couple cards with $30k limits, but we obviously never use up to that limit so it's moot.

15k limit, could move it higher but not sure there's much point when I rarely break 1k unless I have a bunch of business expenses. FICO just above 800.

Wow, you guys are freaking me out. Who even want a 35K+ credit card limit? Mine range between 8 and 12K each on 3 different cards and I'm perfectly happy. It has never even occurred to me to ask for tens of thousands of dollars credit I would never use. I guess I already have that combined, but I mean 15 or 20k on each card, or even adding more cards.

My most recent credit score was 825, so maybe those super high credit limits don't always help.

$9k for me. The minimum limit for the class of card I have it $18k but when I was upgraded to this category the Bank kept the limit the same. As a result I am now hounded every month to increase it, but they're not allowed to without my consent.

In Australia, your credit card limit affects your serviceability for the purposes of calculating your maximum borrowing power when taking out bank loans.

The bank assumes you spend 3% of your limit each month on CC repayments (i.e. the minimum payment required). So if your limit is $10k, the bank says "$300 a month is locked away for CC repayments, therefore you can't borrow as much"

Ergo, when you want to take out a very large mortgage, it's best to minimise your credit card limit beforehand.

Wow what an insanely high numbers. Really reflects the CC culture in the states.

I have one CC with a 2500 euro limit. Should have a good credit score (utilization between 10-20%, automatic payments) but that's not used for loan applications. Instead, as mentioned above, when applying for loans, generally CC limits are reduced off of the total you can borrow, making higher limits less attractive in Europe.

Higher now after I closed some cards, and, while on the phone, asked them to transfer the credit limit to other cards at the same bank. They were able to transfer over 90% of the credit limit for those cards over in all cases.

Holy ****balls that's a lot of credit.

£1500 for me, but I didn't get a credit card until I was nearly 30. Now that my commuter train uses contactless payment I barely use the thing.

$24,000 Chase Southwest Plus. FICO of 780/790 depending on Barclay or Capital One. $149,900 total credit line, but very low utilization, just high because of credit card churning.

30k capital one awards card, opened a few years ago. The limit was quite a surprise, honestly - largest I'd had prior to that was in the 7-10k range. I use cards for nearly all my purchases, so maybe that's why? The interest rate is an atrocity, so it's not like I'm going to be near that limit for a month's expenses.

Credit score(s) are around 800.

I think it's the $7000 Raymour and Flanigan card I got when I bought my furniture. I don't actually use that card anymore, however, as I don't need more furniture and I paid it off at the first bill. So for the ones I use, I think it's $5000 on a Discover. Credit score is mid 700s.

we do not carry a balance on any of them though.

18k here.

I'd like to know what everyone's lowest % rate is for a Credit Card. (Even though we pay in full every month, i'm curious what people can get.)

I've got a Visa signature card that charges 9.2%.

Hubby has one for $50K and I have one for $25K...other misc. like Home Depot, Kohl's, Bob's, etc. come to another 25K.  We pay it off every month.
Both of our scores are over 800.

I have three cc's. The highest limit is $21.4k and is a Mastercard. I have an Amex cc with a limit of $20k, and a Visa with a limit of $20k as well.

Score is over 800. According to Mint it is 817, according to some other free score service it is 845 (which seems too high!).

Maybe $10k?

I really have no idea, I've never come close to hitting the limit as I pay my CC off every month.  I've probably never had more than $3-4K on the card, and that only because I bought a computer or something.

I honestly have no idea what my lowest interest rate is, and I doubt many here know. Interest rate just doesn't matter when you've never paid a dime of interest due to always paying in full, and have no plans to pay interest in the future.

Wow you guys have some super high card limits!  Here I thought mine was crazy high at $20k lol (Amex).  I have several other cards due to travel hacking, I don't remember the limits on all those but I think they're each around the 8k range.  My credit score now I believe is 790.  It was 810 but lowered when I got a mortgage, now climbing back up.

Three Chase cards, sapphire, United, and Ink, with 35k each.  I vary between 750 and 800 in the score, and I'm marked down because I don't use a high enough percentage of the credit and never carry balances.  I have no cash emergency funds other than a couple thousand in a box under my bed (next to the shotgun ;)), so my cards are an important part of my finances if something shitty happens.  I also depend on the business card for smoothing out the financial picture at my business.... We use no other cards and I love Chase's yearly reports on expenditures, which helps me plan and set goals with all the data in one place.

I don't give two shits about my credit report, by the way, because I do not intend to ever borrow any money again once I have finished paying my current mtge.  it's really nice to be able to say that!

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
