What's a good side gig for me?
« on: February 17, 2015, 03:03:07 PM »
Hey guys,

Right now I make about $37/hr, working in IT. Right now I'm looking at about a 40% savings rate, but I would like to speed things up a bit if I can. I plan to do a case study on my budget for some facepunches on my spending, but I'm waiting to make sure the budget I have made is actually an accurate one (recently changed a lot of targets on that). I would like to try to increase my income a bit as well.

My skill set is primarily in networking/Linux admin/Windows admin stuff, and I know I could find some occasional IT side work, but I've done that before and I didn't enjoy it very much (it was mostly doing hardware installs etc in various places- I upgraded computers and networking equipment in a dozen Best Buys or so a few years ago, for example). I'd rather do something unrelated to my day job if possible, maybe something that would help me develop some more DIY skills, for example, as I am not a handy guy at all in general right now, but anything requiring a ton of heavy lifting could be a problem as I have a bit of a weak back. Ideally something that actually pays decently. I've always struggled to find part time work that paid very well. Any suggestions?

I probably could get my old job back on a part time basis, but that's probably only $18-20/hr and I'm not wanting more time in front of a computer screen.
