Unless the terms of your current position prohibit you from working elsewhere, (this would likely be part of your written terms of employment, differs state to state, but you'd know it if that was the case) go ahead and talk to recruiters.  You don't stand to lose anything, right?  And it sounds like you are uncertain that things will work out for you where you are.
