Title: Web Developer/Sys Analyst/Security Protection Officer
Post by: Kaikou on September 02, 2015, 04:32:34 AM
If there was a 12 week boot camp with a guaranteed job interview after`completion. Would any of these worth attending?

Web Developer (12 weeks)
Software (ETL) Developer (13 weeks)
Systems Analyst (9 weeks)

The Web Developer Camp covers the following:

-Software Development Lifecycle (Agile Methodology, Migrations, Milestones, Documentation)
-UNIX (Scripting, Windows Interaction)
-Data Management (Oracle Database)
-Basic Web Development (HTML5, CSS3, Javascript, AJAx, jQuery)
-Business Softskills

I don't have the program listing for the other courses yet.
Are these relevant skills? Worthwhile?

I'd be pretty annoyed at the soft skills portion. Try to find a competitor?

Yeah that definitely sounds like a filler

I'd go with the web development or software ETL. I read recently the two most in demand programming languages are Java and Python,  so perhaps the Web Development is best. Although, I know my company is always looking for good ETL people. Those skills are always in demand too.

Java developers are ridiculously hard to find in my area. At least it seems that way.

The OP asks the question of, are any of these courses worth it, but we don't know the price. Whether any of them are worth it or not doesn't just depend on the curriculum or duration, but what price you have to pay.

That said, we had an iOS dev who went to a boot camp and got his first IT job as a result, making the same as an experienced dev with 10+ years of experience. Not saying all will be able to do that, but I was quite surprised at how effective that strategy was for him. He has since moved on from my company and onto another. Likely with a significant pay increase.

A guaranteed job offer sounds suspicious. Make sure you really look into it before forking over any money, or time.

It says guaranteed interview, not offer -- which could be helpful, but I'm sure it wouldn't be difficult for a training company to strike up a deal with some other company to have a pile of 'filler' interviews.

web development changes too fast

systems analyst is a dead-end for you, as people with real degrees (no offense) will take that role.

my vote is ETL

Thanks all. Someone is flipping the bill if I wanted to take part in any of the workshops. I believe the web development is in the $3000 range. The other camps haven't rolled out .

The soft. dev. is listed with ETL so they are combined.

It's a guaranteed interview with a job panel, who I believe took part in the development of the material covered in the camp though it is offered through a for-profit educational entity.

Looking at the web camp, are those relevant skills or skills a novice could pick up in 12 weeks AND work with them?

Wait where is the info on the "Security Protection Officer" ? Is that in the context of InfoSec?

If so, that would be a really good one to get into...

Maybe not 12 weeks, but depends on the motivation/time spent/learning style etc.
AJAX is an interesting choice, most people who are learning JS and JQuery would probably do better with JSON than XML, and the server side stuff could probably be better handled with node.js.

I'm a novice, so I have no idea what you're talking about. I googled I still don't know what you're talking about. Lol

Yeah it's a new program definitely would take some outside time.
