A question on phones/internet for kiwis
« on: October 03, 2013, 10:27:18 PM »
Calling all kiwis....

Just wondering what prices you're paying for internet, mobile phones and land lines?

I've just seen a prepay smart mobile offer of $16 from Skinny - which is by far the cheapest out there.

MMM's rate for phones/internet is eye wateringly good.

I'm hoping to improve our situation.

Currently with Vodafone on a fixed contract (expires Feb14)

$55 pm for 50G internet*
$45 pm for mobile with 3G data pm (which I use to ring family/friends in Australia with viber)

No land line - as I think $100 pm for internet/mobile is ridiculous, which is why I'd like to see what other kiwis are doing.

*The 50G internet is only $55 pm while the mobile is on account with Vodafone.  Without the mobile it would be $85 pm.
The mobile is a 2010 3GS.  I used my old E series Nokia until it stopped working and intend to do the same with the 3GS.

So I use flip.co.nz for phone and internet $55 a month 10gb and 60 free minutes. I then buy extra data blocks thar carry over at about $0.50 per gb. All up I spend about $60 a month with them.

For cellphone I'm on 2degrees prepaid. $20 lasts me 3-6 months.

Hi
we pay $85 pm for internet with 80G data plus the home phone line (which includes free local calling). We use the 0161 prefix to get 7c/min calls to the UK.
Mobile plan - $25 pm which gives 150 free minutes, unlimited texting and 0.5G data pm.
That's with Telecom
cheers

Hi Gooki and Thelorax

Thanks for your replies.

That's great to see the prices.

I might investigate Flip, Telecom and 2degrees to see if I can get cheaper internet/phone.

If you want seriously cheap internet look into http://terribletalk.co.nz/ it's fucking free.

But you'll want to keep below their 10gb for personal/50gb for business limits, other wise the price jumps up to an above average amount. Still it's a great deal for work from home business owners, holiday home owners, and elderly folk.

Hey guys.

Has anyone tried the 'Terrible Talk'? I'm wondering if anyone can give me feedback on their service etc?

We use around 5gb, and hardly use home phone at all. We are about an hour outside Auckland in a rural area. Any ideas or recommendations would be much appreciated, thanks.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
