water softnener - yay or nay?
« on: September 08, 2016, 01:12:02 PM »
So, I ask you fellow mustachians if this is worth it or not... and if in my case is worth it, which one to get? Would a Lowes one around the 400 USD mark be enough?

My water supposedly is very hard.. I havent tested it yet but according to our borough it says the public water in this area is at 115 grains ....

Im not sure if 115 grains is a lot or not but from the short search i ahve done online it seems to be off the charts... so i ask if a softener would be a good deal or not especially considering we have fancy appliances brand new almost.

Thanks

Hard water will eat your nice new appliances for lunch.  In some parts of the country, a water softener is the only way to go.  Ask your neighbors if *they* have a water softener, and ask their experiences.  My in-laws in Salt Lake City had one of those ~$400 units in the basement, and a pallet of salt bags to keep it stocked.  It worked just fine for them.  YMMV.  Ask the neighbors.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
