Was/is anyone afraid to FIRE?
« on: June 24, 2019, 12:58:52 PM »
Hi,

Just posted my case study and I think I can FIRE but have some fears around it. Just wondering if anyone was afraid to pull the trigger before hand and how that worked out or if there are others that share the fears which include

Will I actually have enough?
What if the numbers markets crash and I really don't have enough?
What if I am bored?

I am sure there are others but I am thinking about those

I think most here have had these same fears (I know I do). I think it's just that we've been programmed to believe we need to work into our mid-60s and everyone around us (friends, family, co-workers, etc.) seem to be resigned to this fate so it feels unnatural to FIRE decades before "normal". But, you're definitely not alone with these concerns. I think that's a lot of what this place is - giving people the confidence to know that it can be done by seeing other people actually do it.

I read too quickly, so am changing my post.

What has your plan been along the way?
How did you decide on your FI number?
What have you always envisioned for your life after FIRE?

My plan was to enjoy my life but be debt free and save to retire early, not necessarily FIRE. I was always diligent with expenses while enjoying life so although I traveled the world I paid off my student loans 2yrs after college, bought cars with no loans and paid off my primary home in under 10yrs.

I didn't really decide on FI numbers until recently I though about it being out of work which is why I posted a case study

Not sure really
