Vacuum recommendations
« on: November 22, 2020, 08:40:21 AM »
Hi everyone!  I’m hoping you all can help with vacuum recommendations!  Here is what I’m looking for:

-Must have sufficient sucking capability to fluff up the carpet nap, to keep the carpet looking fresh and new
- Corded (not cordless)
- Must have an attachment to clean in tight spots/corners (unless there is a quality portable one you’d recommend for use in tight spots/corners)

The Shark Lift-Away seems to be popular, but the lift-away part looks very cumbersome to use.  I’d rather find one that doesn’t require taking apart the vacuum in order to use the attachments.

Thanks in advance for your help!

I have that Shark and definitely do not recommend. The whole thing is cumbersome and top heavy, and overall very fussy. It requires constant cleaning and unclogging and then still does not vacuum well at all. Wish I had a suggestion, but am looking for an upgrade myself.

I use Sebo Felix (https://www.sebo.us/upright-vacuums/felix/felix-premium-kombi-best-lightweight-pet-vacuum-cleaner.aspx)
I love it. Had it for 12 years now.

My favorite vacuum is the dyson hands down.  This time of year you can get them nearly 50% off with all the black Friday deals.  The thing about a dyson though is you need to clean the filters once every 3 months or it will drop in performance.  I also change out my filters once a year.  They are cheap on amazon can get two filters for $8.

I have had a Dyson for years and it is absolutely terrific for dust and fluff on carpets. It's not so great on bare floors, unless you're willing to run the rotor brush and risk scuffing your floor. It's terrible at picking up "things"--objects like cherry pits, bits of paper, gravel, fabric scraps, raisins, etc.

If you have long haired people in your house get the animal kind.

I've had both the Dyson and the Shark.  There are pros and cons for both of them.   Compared to the Shark, Dyson has a wider vacuum path and a bigger cannister for dirt.  But it is a lot heavier and more difficult to get corners, vacuum my stairs, use the attachments.  It's also a lot more expensive than the Shark and IMO for the price didn't seem to last very long.  I'm not sure, time flies, but I think I had to replace it after about 8 years.   I had heard good things about the Shark and it was significantly cheaper.  So when I had to replace the Dyson, I decided to try it.   I've had the Shark about a year.   Besides the price, I think it's a lot easier to use.  I like that it's light, that I can easily get corners, change from tile, hardwood, linoleum floors to carpet with a touch of a button.  It easily detaches to do the stairs.  It goes flat and I can vaccum under my bed.  What I don't like.  I have to empty it more, I have to clean it more (it does get clogged up easier).  I hope that it lasts at least as long as the Dyson.  Adding I have a golden retriever, who sheds A LOT.

Another vote for Dyson. I got the pet version the year they came out with it - still works like on day one.
The first day I used it I had to literally empty the canister three times, you could have knitted another cat with all the extremely fine cat hairs it pulled from the rugs.
Got it on sale at Target along with a $50 target card - so no complaints. Came with complimentary attachments and over time I've used them all.
Does the job and I really like that I can pull out the vacuum hose within seconds and it will automatically switch on - you don't have to remove the floor vacuum at all. Nice feature.
Yes, more expensive than the shark but it does a better job on the pet hair and if you look, probably on black Friday, I bet you'll find a good deal.

I have a Dyson Animal something or other that we bought from Costco a few years ago. It works well on carpet, so so on hardwood/tile.

My biggest gripe is using the hose with the attachments - it takes one of us to hold the main unit steady while the other uses the hose. If you don't hold onto it, the gd thing runs toward you. I haven't figured out the secret to having it stay in place while using hose attachments.
