Vacation advice from Coloradans?
« on: June 09, 2016, 10:29:40 AM »
Our family will be vacationing in your great state in a couple weeks. We're staying near Lyons and will be spending time in the general area. The plan is to do some of the typical stuff in Estes and RMNP, but I know it can be pretty busy. I would prefer to find some quieter/less touristy activities and am turning to the locals for some mustachian advice and activities.

We have 3 kids (10, 8, and 4) so any long hikes or 14ers are probably out :) But other than that, we're up for most anything. Any ideas?

Head up SH7 from Lyons. Lot's of public access to the Arapahoe along the South St Vrain towards Meeker Park and Allenspark.  Or take a left on 72 to Nederland.
Closer to town is Heil Valley Ranch (up Left Hand Canyon or use a little known access trailhead on the south side of Lyons) and Hall Ranch (just west) for some lower montane fun. Lots of open space for you to check out: http://www.bouldercounty.org/doc/parks/allosmap.pdf
Take a drive into Longmont for some Dale's pale ale or get yourself a Nitro Milk Stout and plop down on the patio of Left Hand brewery while the kids play some yard games.

If you are into cycling even with little ones, that whole Boulder to Lyons/west of Longmont area is very popular road cycling. If you do that (or even don't) stop into Mary's Deli located at the stop sign in Hygiene.
