Using mobile that no longer receives security updates

So I have a moto g4 that no longer receives OS updates. I use it very little. Mostly Phone/text. Once in a while email, maps, podcasts/music.

Is there any risk in this? I know some people will not use a device that no longer is supported but my thinking is these people use their phone for way more than I do.

I have used my previous phones for 4 years. After some time, they stop getting updated. I haven't worried about it, but I could imagine that if you do some banking on your phone, that you might be vulnerable. I usually keep my data turned off, so I'm only online for short periods.
After 4 years, there are usually lots of apps that can't be installed or updated, because the operative system is too ancient. If this becomes too annoying, I get newer phone. Until that time, I just use the old one.
We tend to put new batteries in our old phones. Usually a battery get in a pretty bad condition after a year or to. So it pays off getting a phone where you can switch the battery without too much trouble.

If you don't do anything like banking, buying things, etc. you could get away with using it until your apps no longer work.  If you do do those things then I wouldn't recommend it and look for a newer phone.
