Used folding bike
« on: June 13, 2013, 09:17:44 PM »
I certainly didn't intend for this post to be my first ever. I've been a lurker so long and had composed several half-entries in my head but I suppose I might as well get started with this one.

I've been checking out CL postings for bikes, armed with the various info I've gleaned from reading this forum, but I'd like your opinion on this bike please.

I'm a complete bike newb, not having ridden one regularly since my elementary school days. I mean, I only know how to operate one gear for goodness sake!

Ideally, I'd like to build up to riding to work, but until then it will be rides around my neighborhood, moving up to a combo of bus and bike to work, while I work on my courage and endurance.

Anyway, please let me know if this listing is even worth checking out.

As far as I know these folding bikes are rare (maybe they are common in LA, i dunno), I have only seen 1 ever in person.  I was on vacation in London and I saw someone getting off a bus holding it and they got off the bus and then just started unfolding right there to start their riding.  I thought it was coolest thing I ever saw, what a great idea for a bike.  I don't know if this CL one is the same model as the one I saw the entire frame could fold in half and close like a book; that way you could just pick up the whole like a briefcase and walk around with it easily

These could be ideal for situations where you are on a bus for part of your trip and then need a bike to get around once you get off.  Thus, they are definitely useful depending upon your situation.  Heck these things are small and portable when collapsed that if I tried hard enough I you could probably shove it up my ass and store it there all the time and just squeeze it back out in any situation that I needed quick assess to a bike to get somewhere.

I don't know that I've ever seen any here in LA either, to be honest. I tried doing a search on this brand (I think it's a Marina Shark?) and not much is coming up. I wonder if that's a sign.
