Staying the Course
« on: September 15, 2015, 07:10:37 PM »
Hey fellow Mustachians!

I've been on the course to FIRE for several months now and the adrenaline rush from the new experience seems to be wearing off. I've run out of Mustachian posts and I've adjusted my lifestyle quite dramatically in the last few months to up my savings rate. I was just curious what you guys and gals do to keep yourself motivated to stay the course of frugal living? My current plan is to be FIRE in ten years (I'm currently 30) and it seems a far ways off! Cheers all!

I get up and go to work 5 days a week.  I've got motivation for days and days!

There was a big flurry of activity when I started optimizing.
This tapered off, and most everything is on auto pilot.
It felt a little weird for a while....but now I just... live my life.
I've got plenty to do.  Other than check my numbers once a month, I am either working or doing things that I will do more of later.

I agree with the other posters.  If FI is a ways off, the best thing you can do is put things on autopilot and just live.  Your mustachian activities are there in the background, but you are enjoying the rest of life.

The harder part, for me, is when FI gets closer, like 2-3 years away . . . . Finding the will to keep going to work gets tougher!

Good luck!

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
