Best free podcast app for Android
« on: May 22, 2017, 12:09:45 PM »
I've always listened to podcasts on my Ipod, then when that went kaput I haven't listened to any in over a year.  What are some of the better free podcasting apps available for Android?

I recently discovered podcasts.
I went thru two apps before finding Player FM (yeah, silly name for a podcast app).
I'm happy with it.
Guess I should say that the main function I use is downloading shows over WiFi to save data.

Thanks so much.  I downloaded the app and am enjoying my podcasts as we speak.

I listen on Sound Cloud.  I'm new to podcasts, too, and I have an android.  I think Google Play has them, as well, and Audible.  I think sometimes the specific podcast shows will tell you where they are found, if it is on some other platform.

I like AntennaPod.

Simple, open-source, maintained, no ads.

Someone here recommended Podcast Addict to me a few months back and I love it. It's flexible, has good variety of settings and options.

My only complaint is that it downloads everything to my phone's internal storage and basically takes up most of my internal storage space and makes my phone run slower.  I have an 128 GB memory card sitting in my phone practically empty and I can't figure out how to make this app download and store local copies to the memory card instead of my phone's memory.
If anyone knows how to change storage location for this app please let me know.

You will have to make a folder on the SD card.

I second the BeyondPod recommendation. Great app.

If Google Music could get as complete a selection of podcasts as other options, I'd be tempted to consolidate my podcasts there. But until then, BeyondPod is my go to.

+ 1 for Player FM. I've tried a few other podcatchers, and this is my favorite.

I use and really enjoy Pocket Casts, but it's a paid app.

No harm in trying a few different ones if you are after a free app :)
