Do you heat your house with gas fireplace?

Just curious if anyone has ideas about what actual savings might be on this. We had a gas fireplace installed over the summer. We keep it on in mornings and evening as we get ready and keep our thermostat low.  This keeps the area we are hanging out in very warm but other parts of the house less so with out running the furnace all the time. (this week has been - 20 with windchilll)

I suspect that t there is some savings here if not just more efficient.

Thoughts anyone?

I owned a condo that was totally heated w gas fireplace. Never turned on electric.

Watch for CO.

Max 70 percent efficient. In terms of letting some parts of the house cool I don't think it saves anything at these gas prices.

We heat our 750 sf cabin with just a gas stove ( the kind that look like a wood burning stove). As long as we keep all the interior doors open it does fine even when the temps dro down near 0 F). We keep an oil radiator and a ceramic heater to use when we have company and want to close the bedroom or bathroom doors.

Depends on what kind you are talking about and how it is installed.  We have a gas log installed in a fireplace originally designed as a wood burning fireplace.  Even with the flue closed, its super inefficient because (surprise) the hot air goes straight up mostly.  Its a nice luxury, makes the room cozy and warm, and when our power goes out its a good emergency room heating option but it does NOT save us any money.  In fact, before we had kids we would accidentally get drunk and go to sleep with it on, and then get $200 gas bills.
