Travelling in USA - Phone??
« on: March 17, 2017, 05:08:28 PM »
Hey there - As a Canadian family visiting Georgia for 2 weeks, we'd like 1 working phone in case we need to call home/use data.

Momma's phone is on Virgin and their travel plan for voice and data is $40 plus a $40 one-time setup fee. $80 seems like a lot to pay for 2 weeks of service. Can anyone explain other options? I've heard of "Burner phones" but don't know how they work.

If you have unlocked phones (you can ask your carrier about that if you're not sure) then your best bet is to buy SIM cards here in the US. You can research that too, but here's sample link from Best Buy -- http://www.bestbuy.com/site/mobile-phone-accessories/sim-cards/pcmcat265100050014.c?id=pcmcat265100050014

If you don't have unlocked phones, then shop for prepaid phones. Here's a Walmart link with phones starting at under $8 with prepaid service - https://www.walmart.com/browse/no-contract-phones-plans/prepaid-no-contract-phones/1105910_1072335_8991975?page=1&sort=price_low#searchProductResult

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
