2017 or 2018 Honda Fit?
« on: July 29, 2017, 01:33:26 PM »
Greetings,
I will be purchasing this car in cash. I understand most would suggest buying a used car, but the resale value of a Honda Fit in my area is nearly the same as a new one. I do not mind this because I typically put 300 thousand miles on my cars, and I think it would be worth it.
I am using USAA Car buying and I included the states of Maryland (Where I live) and North Carolina (Where I am moving in a few months).
The price of the car in Maryland is cheaper, and so are the taxes.
I should be able to walk out of the dealer with the base automatic model at 16,150. This includes Taxes, Tag and title.
The new 2018 Honda Fits are arriving within the next 2 weeks. They will be more expensive.. around 1900-2000 dollars more.
Does anyone have any insight on what the differences between the 2018 and 2017 Honda Fit's are? I looked online and the answers are confusing and contradicting.
I am wondering if there are any safety upgrades or features with the 2018 model that come standard, that are worth paying a little extra for.

Thanks,

mandy_2002

I don't have an answer to your question, but be wary of taxes on cars when you buy them shortly before moving to a new state with higher taxes.  A good friend of mine was stuck paying a boatload in car sales tax about 7 months after she bought it because the state assumes that anyone who buys a car within a year of moving obviously should be their state tax as well.  (Even though she was t-boned and had to buy the car.  I'm so glad I don't own a car and don't live in the US right now.)

Look this up for SC to see if there is a time limit for  when the state will charge you their car sales tax.

I doubt the newer one is worth $2k more. That's like an additional 12% cost.

By the way, you may want to read up on the laws when retitling a new vehicle in North Carolina within a few months of purchase. They may still charge you their sales tax. (Looks like mandy_2002 beat me to it)

The 2018 Fit is slightly redesigned, includes Carplay/Android Auto, and includes the addition of Honda Sensing (I am not sure if this is an add-on, or is standard on everything but the base trim) - that's Honda's safety suite of automatic braking, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, etc. If you don't need or care about any of this stuff, a 2017 or even lightly used 2015-2016 would be a better bet financially.

Hello, thanks for the info. I will not title the car in Maryland. I am going to Title the car in Florida like my other cars. It is my home of record for the military.
That way, I don't have to re-title my car at every duty station.
