Title: trapped in a job
Post by: mohawkbrah on June 01, 2016, 04:57:11 AM
I feel trapped in my new job that i've only been in for 2 months. it's making me fed up and almost depressing. I currently work two part time jobs, it's my new job that i don't like. i like the other one because the hours are alot more to my liking.

Im tempted to just quit it, there's no room for progression the pay is slightly better than the other job. But if i i quit it and don't find a second job my FIRE date will double. I've been toying with the idea of starting my own mini bakery business form home and do it part time.

what to do?

please halp

You are trapping yourself in a false dilemma. Your options are not "quit this job and double fire date" vs "stay in job and 1/2 fire date."

What about, "find third job which is more fulfilling and pays more than both current jobs?"

There are many jobs in the world. Do some soul searching, it sounds like it would be worth it to consider looking for a different job. But only you can know and you haven't really given enough information to allow anyone else to help you decide.

Everyone has been there. You're probably better off keeping the job you don't like until you find something better, if you can stand it. There must be something better out there for you, right?

* Keep your resume up-to-date
* Network with co-workers via LinkedIn, Meetup groups,(and/or FaceBook, & other social networking)
* Put out the word TODAY via your network(s):  "Great worker doing <X> available. Know of any good gigs?"

The key is to stress that you do NOT "hate your job"... Instead, you seek to "expand your horizons, and put your hard work ethic to work doing something great".

Is there a reason you can't just get another job? Are you in some sort of high paying niche field? If not - go find a different job. Free yourself of your own constraints. Take your time, keep working both jobs, and find the right position with the right hours/pay.

Good luck!

You're 2 months in and you already hate it. How long before you FIRE? 1 year? 2 years? Anything above that will be impossible for you, so as others have said, look for another job, and as soon as you find it, quit the one you don't like.

I hate to be the 'old guy' but if your profile & signature are accurate you are 20 and shooting for 120,000 GBP for FI, this may be a temporary adjustment period. Also, while I have studied the ERE path, I don't think it's sustainable if you want a family or have/get a spouse who's not 110% on board so there is a chance you'll need more that 120K GBP.

I went through this after about 12 months working full time where I was missing the "reset button". I no longer had summers off, new semesters to renew my interests, new projects but rather just the knowledge that work was going to be roughly the same day in and day out. I'm now in my early 30's and even though I have done a number of different functions, I still miss having my entire life/schedule 'reset' but you do become use to it. There is a reason working is nicknamed the grind.

Stick with it and find ways to grow your skills, network, and interests both from a career and personal perspective. As others have said, it's not a two option question, rather start figuring out what your 'next step' will be professionally.
