Some stranger from other side of country wants to sell me a gift card for 1/2 price. Whats the safest way to buy this without getting scammed? Thanks

Ask the gift card first. If its to good to be true...

Also, I´ve heard some people buy this cards with stolen CC data and sell them for cheap to flip a quick profit.
