Help me choose my next vehicle

I am slowly but surely driving my 2001 Chevy Prizm into the ground. Currently I'm at about 163K miles and going fairly strong other than some oil leakage, but I'm preparing for that inevitable point when the Prizm kicks the bucket or presents an expensive mechanical issue, which may be soon. What I really want in my next vehicle is a reliable, used SUV capable of towing (want to get a small RV in the next few years). I would like it to have decent clearance so I can drive down forest roads. Recommendations? My budget is around 6K, so I'm trying to keep it simple.

If you are set on having a small SUV, I'd suggest an older Honda CRV or depending on the size of the RV, a Subaru Forester can be a solid choice in your price range.

We had excellent luck with a Hyundai Santa Fe -- thing was as reliable as any other vehicle we've ever owned, and cheap as dirt.
