Body work on my Scion
« on: July 12, 2014, 09:14:07 AM »
This weekend I was on a short road-trip to a conference and hit a deer (actually, she pretty much hit me). The front panel and driver's door of my Scion XA are severely dented. An auto body shop in the small town I ended up in took off the door panel and pounded it back out enough that I could open and close the door and roll my window up and down. They also taped the side mirror back on. They told me that full repairs would run around $2500 but, of course, I plan to try and scrounge up used parts from a junkyard.

Anyone with experience have any advice? How hard is it to replace a panel? A door? How difficult will it be to find the necessary parts? My city is of moderate size (200,000) and our "metropolitan" area boasts 600,000, but Boise is very isolated with other populous areas (Salt Lake or Portland) at least 6 or 7 hours away.
