ting alternatives
« on: May 06, 2016, 01:51:02 PM »
I have Ting, and while it is cheap, the service kind of sucks where i live (Michigan).
Anyone have recommendations on a similar MVNO that is non-Sprint?
I like Ting's tiered service options.

Use Ting's Tmobile GSM service. You will need a GSM smartphone for that. https://ting.com/shop?Network=gsm

Alternatively, use Cricket wireless (AT&T network) or MetroPCS (Tmobile network).

Referral for Cricket wireless: https://refer.cricketwireless.com/53GypD5 (Gets you $25)

PM if you would like to know the process. Cricket wireless had $50 port in credit, or $100 if coming from Tmobile. Some good deals on phone too right now.

Others on this forum will talk about low usage plans etc, I am not for them at all. I use my Cricket service as a replacement to cable internet too.

Do you want to transfer more than one line?

The guide is good for these sorts of questions.

Anyway, you know that Ting also offers T-Mobile coverage, right? T-Mobile has reasonably decent coverage on the lower peninsula.

There's also Consumer Cellular, who does a similar tiered model and uses AT&T coverage.

This said, if you only have one phone line on the account? There's cheaper carriers if you're using PAYGO levels of mobile coverage, such as with Airvoice, Puretalk USA and H2O Wireless, all AT&T MVNOs. Even if you need "unlimited" levels of talk and text but only a little data, again, cheaper options than Ting. Ting and Consumer Cellular's pricing only shines on multiple line billing.

Learn to use less, and you'll save more money. Also stay way from brands like Cricket, they're destroying what remaining legitimate competition there is in the prepaid mobile industry. Also think about what people suggest, and whether they're lining their own pockets with their recommendations instead of helping you find what you need.

Thanks fro the tips, I did not realize the the GSM coverage was that much better: i can't remember why I went with CDMA in the first place, but there was a reason...
