Term Life Insurance - Where to buy?
« on: February 22, 2018, 08:59:53 AM »
Anyone have a recommendations for where to buy term life insurance? I currently have a policy with my "financial advisor" (NW Mutual) and this has been the last thing keeping me from parting ways.

Also, any advice for how many to years to lock in the rate? Currently Wife and I are both insured for $1MM age 34 and 35 with 4 young kids.

We used a guy who represented multiple companies, I guess you'd call him an independent agent,  so he was able to run our specifics through several companies to find us the best deal.  We ended up going with a 20 year term.  This was when I was pregnant.   I was closer to 40, however, at the time and figured our retirement accounts would be big enough to cover things in the event of death.

How long do you plan to work?  How long is your mortgage.

You can usually buy level premium term for 15, 20, 25, 30, not longer (but all policies continue beyond the level premium but at MUCH higher rates).

If you think you'll have your full stash by 45 then 10 years might be enough, but price check.  You might find 20 year is really not that much more expensive and you can always choose to end it earlier.  This is probably more preferable to getting 10 and then realizing you need more at year 11 - you may no longer be insurable or the prices may be much higher due to higher age.
