Telosa - can we get MMM to finally do this?
« on: November 25, 2021, 10:44:42 AM »
I recently came across a rich guy trying to form a sustainable utopian city in the US.  It looks good and I love the ideas, but wouldn't MMM be the better person to finally get this thing off of the ground?  Telosa (apparently a Greek work meaning higher purpose) and the associated dotcom website are too slick for my liking, but I'll keep an eye on the space.  I would love to contribute, in some way, to something that heads humanity in such a direction as opposed to just giving in to the suburban sprawl and consumption default.  Making sustainability sexy and better than the alternative is a worthwhile goal, and seems achievable given the right person/motivation...

Bonus question, is Longmont 'Mustachian' or is this all just a big thing on the internet but not in the real world?

Lol, first thing I did upon seeing the thread title was check the author. Whew, you're not a troll! In that case, please tell us more.

Are the trolls active lately?  'Ask a Mustachian' seems like a pretty lame place to go trolling, but that's never stopped them!

The initial finding came from a Stephen Colbert bit (which I mostly watch online, hence the starting of the thread after seeing it).  The guy behind the idea is Mark Lore (pronounced Lorry), a Walmart billionaire...  I was intrigued, but disappointed that ideas like this aren't starting grassroots, where they have a real chance to accomplish the intended purpose.

Did you have any thoughts on how legit it might be?  This bit sounds right out of MMM's playbook -
Quote
Telosa is planned to be a 15-minute city, with workplaces, schools, and basic goods and services being within a 15-minute commute from residents' homes. Vehicles that are powered by fossil fuels will not be permitted within the city, with an emphasis instead being placed upon walkability and the use of scooters, bicycles, and autonomous electric vehicles.

Perhaps there are good reasons for that...
