Title: Tello for phone service?
Post by: chortitza on June 16, 2018, 01:23:13 PM
Hi all - I signed up for a year of free cell service with Sprint last year and am coming up on the end of that deal. I'm looking to switch providers and see that Tello apparently runs on the Sprint network but is roughly $50 cheaper per month for a single phone plan (with limited data). Is anyone that has used Tello willing to share his/her experience?

FWIW, I'm in central/western Virginia and would welcome any input folks have on other good options in this area as well.

Thanks in advance!

Works great for me... I have been using it for the past ~ 3 months with a pay as you go plan. Cost has been about ~ $7 per month. Before that I was using mintsim which is $15 for unlimited voice, text and 2GB of data. Both great deals but I did not need it, so I switched to Tello.

They just started a referral program, if you decide to sign up, use my link and we both get $10 credit :)

Best

I've been on Tello since  Feb 2016 and have posted this in previous threads.  I have no complaints.  I'm on PAYGO and am on my original $5 topup, although I did get a free $10 bonus.   Yes, it uses the Sprint network - no roaming on Verizon towers, but good enough coverage for me.  I have a family member on a $12 plan instead of PAYG  (they increased the data allotment over that year and a half without increasing the price).

Thinking of switching from US Mobile (AT&T MVNO) to Tello.  Does anyone use Tello with an iphone, and does it allow the use of imessaging and group MMS messaging?  If you use pay as you go, can you set up an automatically recurring refill?

@chortitza apologies for the late reply, hope this is still useful... So, yes, Tello does have automatic recurring refill. If you opt in, it will auto reload $10 whenever you balance falls below $2. works flawlessly. can't comment on the iphone MMS unfortunately

Yes, people use iPhones with Tello.  SMS, MMS, iMessage will work, although I don't personally have an iPhone.

You can also add a PAYG balance to a regular plan so that it will draw from it if you go over your allotments.  I'm using strictly PAYG.  I've still got over $6.50 left of my original $5+$10 bonus from when I signed up in Feb 2016.
