Should I leave my Job/Company?
« on: July 12, 2015, 06:33:47 PM »
I've 27 years old and work in for a large retail company in their supply chain component.

In my early 20's after getting my degree I tried to figure out what industry I wanted to be in and switched around a few times. Around 3 years ago I started with my current company on a 6 month contract, then I got accepted to do a 2 year cadetship role where I would spend 1-2 months going around the different smaller departments within the supply chain, basically training me up to work at our main supply chain warehouse as a supervisor of a small team once finished.

This role finished 3-4 months ago and the only role going was a dead end data entry role in the head office (my current role).

I'm so bored, uninterested in doing mind numbing data entry when I've spent the last 2 years learning all these skills in problem solving, project management, leading small teams, improving efficiencies, meeting KPI's, etc.

I really need to get solid skills in managing a small team for a longer period of time. Unless I have these skills, I can't really go to other companies and manage a small team without proven experience in doing so other than a few weeks which I've done.

So my dilemma is...

I stay in my current role and keep continually looking and making comment that I want to move back to our main supply chain warehouse or other option is to leave the company and try to make my way within the industry another way.

I feel if I waited around in the company I'm with, they know my skills and would offer me a role as soon as it came up. I'd be able to equip myself with all the skills I need to build my career that I really want in warehousing management. I feel if I leave, the only roles people would hire me for would be admin or project type work, both which I'm not entirely happy doing for much longer.

I'm really stuck and not quite sure what to do. My current role is so dull and I don't particularly enjoy the time with the work colleagues or manager. I feel so drained at work and it is slipping into effect my time outside of work also.

Can the same training and skills be learnt somewhere else in a similar role?

Or do you have to have the people management experience before you jump ship? (or truck!)

I'd probably have to do admin work and then just wait for an opportunity like I'm doing now.

It's a catch 22 where people want you to have experience managing small teams but no one is willing to develop anyone that doesn't have those skills already.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
