The 3 questions to ask
« on: February 09, 2015, 03:12:55 PM »
Our family has been working on our mustache for a few months now. I have read so many posts that I'm a little lost. Somewhere I read that MMM asks 3(?) questions before spending any money. Something like:
"Will this purchase make my life any better?"
"Will delaying this purchase help?"
I am wanting to deeply ingrain the correct questions in my head, but I can't find them in order to memorize them.
Help?
Thanks =D

Here you go:

Will buying this really improve my overall lifetime happiness?
Is there another, more efficient way to meet this same need?
Can the same benefit be had if I delay the purchase?

Welcome to MMM!  It can be difficult to cut down on spending.  It's great that you're asking yourself these big questions.

Another thing that can really help is to set tangible goals.  Reduce your monthly clothing expenses by half.  Reduce your food expenses by 40%.  Focus on using the library instead of buy books.  Set monetary limits on birthday/Christmas presents.  Once you've met your goals, then you can continue to up the ante.

Keep your "end game" in mind too.  Whether it's having the free time to spend quality time with your kids, or the freedom to travel whenever you want, or being able to start your own business.  If you know what you want out of life, it makes the initial shock of your spending "sacrifices" have less impact on your life.  It also makes a huge difference when you're trying to get the family on board if they know WHY you're trying to implement these changes.

Good luck!

Thank you both so much. I really appreciate this information and these ideas. We have made some major progress in cutting down, so it seems like a good time to review items purchase by purchase based on these questions. Thank you so much for your input!!

Not MMM's but mine...

What do I want MOST over what do I want now?
Is this a NEED or is it a Want?
Trash/Trinket/or TREASURE?

How many walkers have you killed?
How many people have you killed?
Why?

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
