Post by: blackjack on July 04, 2014, 02:11:06 PM
I make 100,000 a year and am 30 y/o( wife makes 49,000)

I just started saving 7 months ago
ING savings: 18,000
Roth IRA: 5000
Target Fund DATE 2045
401k: 3,000

BOND MARKET INDEX FUND    Fixed Income - Intermediate Bond    5%

S&P 500 EQUITY INDEX FUND    Large Cap Stock - Blend    35%

S&P 400 MIDCAP INDEX FUND    Mid Cap Stock - Blend    20%

RUSSELL 2000 INDEX FUND    Small Cap Stock - Blend    20%

INTERNATIONAL INDEX FUND    International Stock - Blend    20%
I do hold about 5-6% in precious metals
Question
I want more risk I'm thinking of keeping my 401k the same but switching my IRA from the target fund to (VTSMX) 75% and 25% of (VGTSX) or just 100% in VTSMX

It's best to have an asset allocation for your entire portfolio. Figure out the overall percentage you want and the. Get there using the lowest expense ratios possible amongst your accounts.
