Chase rewards question- Vacation rental help?
« on: April 29, 2019, 01:28:40 PM »
I assume many here have taken advantage of Chase rewards, I'm new to the world of travel rewards but started with the Chase Sapphire, and now have Chase rewards in both my account and my husbands... I see they offer "vacation rentals" as an option which would be ideal for our family, we could cook meals instead of eating out and the vacation would cost very little, but I can't find any available, regardless of which dates or locations I put in. Am I missing something? I tried calling Chase but they just offered to search dates and locations for me. Anyone successfully use their Chase rewards for vacation rentals rather than hotels?

We did recently stay in a cabin for a night that had dinner included, but it was under the "hotels" tab...

No I haven't redeemed the points for vacation rentals, but I've certainly earned points booking vacation rentals through other sites such as Airbnb. Surely you can find something else to use the points on if you don't want to stay in hotels, such as flights or car rentals? I've found the offerings in those categories through the Chase portal to be pretty competitive price-wise.

Thanks for the input. We don't fly much- partly because of the environmental impact. Our ideal vacation is driving to the coast for a long weekend- I just don't want to eat out the whole time if we use points for a hotel. It just seems odd that vacation rentals are listed on their site but are always "sold out," even if I go the end of their scheduling window, September 2020 and try to book weekdays. Something has to be wrong.

I did a vacation rental through Chase Rewards for my honeymoon. It was a resort where all of the condos were individually owned and some of the owners rented them out. I didn't search specifically for vacation rentals, though. I searched for hotels, using my dates, and this rental was one of the options that popped up. Maybe search that way?

Thanks. It just excited me to see the "vacation rental" tab there... I do see the option to sort by "condo" or "includes kitchen", I guess I'll just go with that for now. I'm working on a Barclay arrival plus card now, as I understand it vacation rentals will code as travel so maybe I'll use those rewards for a rental and save the chase rewards from something else.

I *think* vacation rentals code as real estate rather than travel.  Google before you try.

Edited to add that I was wrong.  https://millionmilesecrets.com/guides/can-i-use-barclaycard-arrival-miles-for-airbnb-stays/
