Title: Stream Premier League and Champions League in Europe for free?
Post by: expatinAMS on August 18, 2015, 02:49:03 AM
Hi friends! First posting here :) Hubs and I are US expats living in Amsterdam for the past year, trying to really make the most (financially and otherwise!) of our time on expat assignments. We've been living reasonably mustachian since we started working ~5 years ago, but we've I've only recently found this community (I'm still working on him; he's not against the idea of FIRE, he just is having a hard time believing it's possible). Anyway, here's the crux of the question- hubs has very few materialistic tendencies, but the one thing he loves is watching his soccer (or football as they call it over here).

We currently pay ~70 EUR a month for internet/cable/soccer package, and neither one of us ever watches TV other than to watch the games on the special package. If we could find a way to watch the games (in good quality, live) over the internet, we could totally drop TV and go down to 50 EUR a month for just the internet (and on that note, any way to get cheaper internet over on this side of the pond?). Any advice? Thanks friends!

Welcome fellow football fan (aka. soccer).  I have a side-gig with the Seattle Sounders FC, so I get where your SO is coming from.  I'm not certain which Champions League you're most interested in, so can't help there - Seattle plays Honduras tomorrow night here in the Pacific Northwest.

As for the British Premier League, try  THIS ARTICLE (http://www.techradar.com/us/news/television/8-awesome-alternative-ways-to-watch-the-premier-league-1171604) - 3 pages of different ways you might be able to stream these matches.  There are also (of course) many links that *claim* to allow you to stream, but most are just click bait.  I checked out a couple of the links on THIS (http://www.quora.com/Is-there-any-site-where-I-can-pay-to-watch-guaranteed-online-English-Premier-League-streaming) article on "How to pay to stream the premier league". Some of these links seem legit, and some seem like click bait - use your best judgement.

Nice! ok I'll check these out. and yeah, hubs is a AC milan and Real fan, and I'm for Liverpool, so we're looking to, at a minimum, get champions league and premier league. la liga, bundesliga, and serie A would be great, but not essential.

I'm curious to learn more about apple tv- expats are always talking about it. we currently pay for cable + fox soccer over here which is so silly since we can't even understand anything on the normal tv channels and all the games we watched are called in dutch. I wouldn't mind if we didn't even save any money, as long as our money was actually buying something we wanted to watch. at this point, im almost considering the money we'd save cutting the cable and package and putting it to a bar tab to watch the games at the bar every time. at least we'd get beer out of that...

thanks again! oh, and cool gig! ever met Dempsey?

I have a similar problem in Florida. the only legal streaming is via nbcsn. and you can get it if you subscribe to that via your normal provider.
I want an option to watch the games and not have to have a tv subscription as well. I'm hoping nbc offer this option via a sling type device or set up.
I don;t mind paying for it but I don;t want the rest of the TV offerings.

anyone been able to find a way around this in the US?

Google First Row Sports.  It works in the states, not sure about Europe.  Also, make sure you have some pop up blocking software.  There are an absurd amount of popups.  I've been watching premier league games for years on there.
